Meet Nick Bone: Cedar Crest's New UK Mortgage and Protection Adviser

We're delighted to welcome Nick Bone to the Cedar Crest team. Nick is a UK-based mortgage and protection adviser who helps UK residents, British expats and international investors secure mortgages for residential homes and investment properties across the UK.
Having spent part of his childhood in Hong Kong, Nick knows first-hand what it's like to manage life, money and property plans across borders, which makes him a natural fit for our expat mortgage specialism. We sat down with him to find out what drives him, why he loves helping people onto (and up) the property ladder, and the advice that has shaped him along the way.
Nick's role at Cedar Crest
As a mortgage and protection adviser, Nick's role goes well beyond finding a rate. He takes the time to understand each client's circumstances and goals, then finds a mortgage that fits, while making sure the right protection is in place for them and their family.
“I work closely with my clients to understand their circumstances and goals, finding suitable solutions to help them achieve their property ambitions while ensuring they have the right protection in place for themselves and their families.”
Nick can help with:
Residential mortgages for UK residents and British expats buying a home in the UK
Buy-to-let and investment property mortgages for expats and overseas investors
Protection advice so you and your family are covered if the unexpected happens

From Hong Kong to the UK: how Nick found his career
Financial services runs in the family. Nick's dad is an Independent Financial Adviser, and Nick grew up following his journey, including the family's move to Hong Kong. He was always fascinated by the people his dad met and the places his career took him.
The turning point came when Nick began working alongside him:
“It was when I had the opportunity to work alongside him and see first-hand the positive impact financial advice could have on individuals and families that I realised this was the career I wanted to pursue.”
Since then, he has built a real passion for helping people make informed financial decisions, reach their goals and feel more confident about their future.
Why Nick chose Cedar Crest
For Nick, joining Cedar Crest was about shared values and a client-first approach. He was particularly drawn to our specialism in helping UK residents, British expats and international investors achieve their property goals.
“Having lived in Hong Kong myself, I understand the international perspective and enjoy working with people from different backgrounds. I liked the emphasis on providing tailored advice and supporting clients throughout their journey.”
The best part of the job
Ask Nick what he enjoys most and the answer is always the people: getting to know clients' stories, careers and lifestyles, and what they want their future to look like. No two days are the same, and he loves working with people from all walks of life.
Mortgages hold a special place for him because buying a home is such a significant milestone, whether that's a first step onto the property ladder or a move into a dream home.
“Knowing that the property will become a place where they build memories with their family makes it even more satisfying. Being able to play a small part in those moments is one of the most rewarding aspects of what I do.”
The advice that has stuck with him
The best advice Nick has ever been given is one he applies to both work and life:
“You can't move forward if you're standing still.”
For Nick, that means continuing to learn, embracing new opportunities and being willing to step outside his comfort zone. It's also why his business icon is entrepreneur Simon Squibb, whose philosophy is that you don't need everything figured out before you start making progress, and that the best businesses solve real problems and create genuine value rather than chasing financial success alone.
Nick's top financial tip
The money lesson Nick has carried with him since childhood is a classic: “Look after the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves.”
He believes it's a reminder that good financial habits and small, consistent decisions make a big difference over time. Combine that with the power of compound growth, where your money earns returns that go on to earn further returns, and modest amounts can grow into something far more significant over the long term. It's a mindset that serves anyone saving for a deposit, overpaying a mortgage or building a property portfolio.
Family first
The people Nick admires most are his parents, and becoming a dad himself has only deepened that appreciation, especially knowing they raised five children. He credits his dad's work ethic and determination, including working abroad and sacrificing his own time to provide for the family, and his mum's selflessness in holding everything together.
“They've shaped the person I am today, both personally and professionally, and I hope I can provide the same love, support and opportunities for my own children that they gave to us.”
Nick has been with his partner for eight years, and together they have a one-year-old daughter who he is incredibly proud of.

Outside the office
Sport has always been a big part of Nick's life. He has played cricket for his local club for more than 20 years, follows England cricket, and is a keen Watford FC supporter. He also enjoys football, golf, fishing and hiking, and loves travelling, experiencing new cultures and trying new foods.
Thanks to his years in Hong Kong, he has great friends both in the UK and abroad, and he loves nothing more than getting them together at home. His speciality? Pizzas from his own pizza oven. In fact, if he weren't a mortgage adviser, Nick says he'd probably be running a pizza or food business with his partner, who he describes as a brilliant cook.
Growing up though , the dream was professional footballer or travelling the world playing cricket!
Looking ahead
Nick's biggest aspiration is to build a life he can be proud of, giving his family opportunities and the freedom to enjoy life together. Professionally, he wants to keep growing his business, helping more people achieve their property goals and making sure they're properly protected along the way.
